Gum Disease Treatment Bethlehem

Treating Diseased Tissues with Greater Precision

As the leading cause of tooth loss in the U.S., gum disease is a rapidly growing problem. While initial symptoms of bleeding and swollen gums can be reversed with regular cleanings and proper at-home oral care, more advanced cases (periodontitis) require professional intervention. As our in-house periodontist, Dr. Joseph Gaspari brings decades of experience, using safe and effective solutions to target diseased tissues and restore gum health. Contact our office if you need help to determine whether gum disease treatment is right for you.

Scaling & Root Planing

When treating an infection that reaches beneath the gumline and into the gum pockets, Dr. Gaspari can use scaling and root planing. Performed in two parts, scaling involves removing any existing plaque and tartar from your teeth and gumline. Root planing requires that he reach deep within the pocket to smooth out the tooth roots, eliminating any remaining bacteria while also kickstarting the healing process.

Antibiotic Treatment

After performing scaling and root planing or any other method of gum disease treatment, we will likely administer antibiotics in the form of Arestin. When applied to your gum pockets, the medication slowly disperses over time so that its tiny microspheres target deeply buried bacteria, effectively eliminating any that remain.

Laser Periodontal Treatment

LANAP (Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure) is performed using the Millenium soft tissue dental laser. As a more comfortable approach, the laser’s concentrated beam of light targets the diseased tissue between the teeth and gum pockets, removing it with optimal precision and killing any remaining germs that cause gum disease. This method promotes faster recovery, better gum reattachment, and reduced bacterial reinfection.

Chao Pinhole Technique

As a minimally invasive form of gum disease treatment, the Chao Pinhole Technique is one that Dr. Gaspari can perform when gum recession occurs. As a common symptom of periodontal disease, elongated teeth can heighten your risk of tooth sensitivity. By using this unique service, he can make small holes in the gum tissue and gently slide it so that it covers the exposed tooth roots and improves your oral health.
